We specialize in (1) building custom guitars and basses, (2) paint, refinishing (e.g.,custom paint/graphics) and (3) repairs and/or custom modifications of existing client instruments. Numerous examples of each service are provided within the pages of this web site. We stock a huge selection of parts, pickups, bridges, necks, bodies and the like.
Clients from all over the world, including some of yesterdays and today's biggest artists, come to us for our services. We have been providing custom paint and graphic work for over 10 years. Our graphic services are supplied by world renowned painter and graphic artist Dan Lawrence. His artwork has been featured on instruments and in catalogs from Jackson, Schecter, ESP, Ibanez, Yamaha, Zion, Tom Anderson, B.C.Rich, Samic/Valley Arts, Fender and many other smaller custom builders.
Our services cover a huge diversity of tastes and interests, so if you want something and don't see it here, just phone or fax us. Customers have retained us to build everything from a Tabasco bottle bass (Michael Anthony - Van Halen) to a 6 / 6 reverse body Rickenbacher double neck covered in large silver metalflake (Dweezel Zappa). We also carry a huge supply of figured woods (e.g., quilt, flame maple) for those of you who require a more traditional natural wood body. Note that we build both bolt-on and neck-thru-body instruments.
Some of our repair services are summarized below by catagory. We also build a very limited production line of guitars on a "per-order basis only" for the very discerning and discriminate customer who wants something above and beyond the ordinary (at a fraction of the usual cost associated with similar custom instruments). GMW Guitar And Bass Services:
Fingerboard:
1. Mill/dress frets; e.g., fret leveling, crown and polish.
2. Refret.
3. Repair existing inlays and/or install new custom inlays.
4. Change fingerboard; e.g., ebony to maple, etc....
5. Change radius of fingerboard to a flatter radius.
6. Repair/fill pits, dings, scratches, dents, cracks, chips, etc....
7. Install and/or replace binding on neck and/or headstock.
8. Cut and install new all bone or graphite nuts.
9. Remove or install Floyd Rose clamp platforms.
10. Remove and replace defective trussrods.
11. General set-up (set action, adjust trussrod, adjust intonation).
12. Relevel/replace fingerboard; e.g., remove warpage, twisting, backbow, etc....
13. Other; i.e., anything you can think of (call for info).
Neck:
1. Build custom necks with specified headstock, fingerboard, frets, nut width, scale length, etc.....
2. Install new headstock and/or repair broken headstocks.
3. Paint (refinish), headstocks, neck and/or fingerboard.
4. Paint touch ups on existing headstocks or necks to repair dings, dents, chips, etc.
5. Install new, or replace existing, neck and/or headstock binding.
Body:
1. To summarize, "If you can think of it, we can probably build it"! We offer either bolt-on or neck-thru-body construction.
2. Complete in-house paint and graphic service for new or existing instruments; e.g., refinishing and restoration. We offer polyester, urethane, and nitro cellulose lacquer finishes.
3. Add or remove tremolo systems. We stock most standard tremolo and non-tremolo bridge systems.
4. Add or remove pick-up routes. We stock Seymour Duncan, DiMarzio and EMG pickups.
5. Design, manufacture and/or install custom or standard pickguards for any style body.
6. Install figured wood laminate tops on any guitar or bass in both flat or arch top configurations.
7. Repair, replace or install body binding.
Electronics:
1. Pickups-install, repair, replace.
2. Fix existing electronics; e.g., pots, switches, ground problems, etc......We can repair or install the electronics in anything from a single humbucker Jackson to a full blown B.C.Rich double neck supreme Rich Bich guitar/bass.
3. Custom wiring; e.g., splitters, push-pull pots, kill switches, blower switches, series, parallel, out of phase wiring, boosters, veritone circuits, active electronic circuits, mega switches, etc.
4. Control cavity and pickup rout shielding.
5. Piezo bridge systems.
